Why Is It Not Good To Make Your Bed In The Morning?

To eliminate mites we would have to leave the bed unmade, ventilate the room and let the fresh air and sunshine in.
Why is making your bed in the morning not good?

Making the bed is one of the first activities most people do when they get up. Whether that is in the morning or at a later time of the day. There are several reasons why we think this is important. On the one hand, we like that our house looks neat. On the other hand, our bedroom looks very cozy when we step back into it.

So you can say that most people are used to making the bed every day. Although a recently published study by the University of Kingston in London  shows that making your bed is not as good as it seems at first glance. It may even have negative effects on our health.

How do we explain this?

The researchers showed that making up the sheets and bedspread makes a perfect nest for mites. In addition, it extends their life cycle.
With this, these researchers proved that making the bed can be harmful to our health.

Although we often don’t realize it, sheets and bedspreads contain moisture and heat, which is generated by the sweat we produce when we sleep. This moisture in combination with poor ventilation creates a perfect home for mites. In that environment they also multiply easily and hide without us realizing it.

By creating a perfect habitat for mites, we are more likely to suffer from:

  • asthma
  • eczema or dermatitis
  • chronic hay fever
  • various respiratory allergies
  • insomnia.

The study also showed that a made-up bed can contain up to 1.5 million mites. This results in an increased risk of diseases.

Wait a minute before making your bed!

Stephen Pretlove, the leader of the team of scientists who published the study, said it’s best not to make your bed immediately after getting up to combat mites. This way you can prevent diseases that they cause. When we don’t make the bed, we can get rid of the mites more easily, especially if we ventilate our bedroom.

That is why it is better to leave the bed unmade and the windows of our bedroom open. This prevents the mites from multiplying.

Pretlove also showed that many insects and vermin can be removed with various cleaning products. Or by simply using the vacuum cleaner. However, he clarified that mites cannot be removed in this way, so he recommended ventilating the room regularly, washing the sheets and blankets regularly and exposing them mainly to sunlight.

To conclude , the scientists noted that these findings may be very important in preventing allergies or similar illnesses. Also to gain insight into what can help in its treatment. Therefore, people who don’t like to make the bed have a good reason not to.

And those who do, especially after waking up, should begin to consider these recommendations to prevent the reproduction of mites and reduce their life expectancy, in order to avoid the aforementioned diseases.
