Natural Treatments for Excessive Sweating

What is sweat? First, it’s important to know why we sometimes sweat excessively: it regulates body temperature. When the skin is warmer than normal, your body starts to sweat to cool it down.

That’s why you sweat when you are hot, when you enter a room with a higher temperature, when you have a fever, when you are out in the sun, when the temperature rises above 29°C or when you are exercising.

Sweat is secreted by your glands and consists of a mixture of water, mineral salts, amino acids and urea. While you also sweat from your pores, it is most concentrated in your sweat glands and that is where most of the sweat comes from. That is why it is your face, armpits, palms and soles where you perspire the most.

Sweat helps you filter the impurities from your bloodstream (such as alcohol, oil or tobacco residue). That’s the simple answer from the encyclopedia, but what happens when you sweat excessively?

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, occurs when there is a change in your sympathetic nervous system, causing your body to sweat more to regulate your temperature.

Many people who suffer from this problem also notice that it depends on the weather (for example, if it is hot or sweltering). It can also depend on your emotional mood. That means that when someone is very nervous, anxious, stressed or depressed, they may sweat more.

If the problem was just that you were exuding a little more fluid under your armpits, it would just be a pain. But it’s more annoying when it’s also accompanied by odor, irritation, skin fungus and more.

What Are the Best Natural Treatments for Excessive Sweating?

Sweaty Hands

Treatment #1 for Hyperhidrosis

Ingredients

  • 1 liter of water
  • 4 green tea bags (or the same weight in loose tea)

Preparation

Bring all ingredients to a boil, then cook for 15 minutes and then allow to cool. Then rinse your hands, feet and armpits with the moisture. Sourness is a natural astringent.

Treatment #2 for Hyperhidrosis

To sweat

Ingredients

  • 1 liter of water
  • 2 tablespoons dried sage

Preparation

Bring the water and sage to a boil and then simmer for three minutes. Then remove from heat and let cool. Then strain the liquid and add it to a bathtub filled with warm water.

You can also pour it into a bowl to soak your hands and feet. You can also apply moisture with a sponge under your armpits. Then rinse it off with cold water. You can also drink sage tea on top of that as an alternative (one teaspoon of sage per cup of boiling water).

Treatment #3 for Hyperhidrosis

Ingredients

  • 10 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 20ml water

Preparation

Mix these two ingredients together and then drink them every morning for breakfast. However, wait half an hour before having some whole grain toast and fruit.

Sweat drops

Ingredients

  • 250ml water
  • 1 tablespoon relaxing herbal tea (orange blossom, mint, linden, passion flower, chamomile or valerian)

Preparation

Prepare your tea as usual and drink it as soon as the liquid is warm, but not hot enough to burn yourself. Its relaxing and calming properties help  avoid excessive sweating caused by nervousness.

Treatment #5 for hyperhidrosis

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons walnut tree leaves
  • Half a liter of water

Preparation

Walnut (or rather the leaves of the tree) contain antiseptic and astringent properties that naturally regulate how much you sweat. Boil the leaves for five minutes, then remove from the heat and let them steep.  Then strain the liquid and soak a cotton ball or washcloth before applying it to the armpits, feet, and so on.

Treatment #6 for hyperhidrosis

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon horsetail grass
  • 250ml water
  • A few drops of apple cider vinegar

Prepare a tea by boiling the horsetail grass for five minutes. Then let it steep until the liquid has cooled down a bit and then strain the liquid. Then add the apple cider vinegar, dip a cotton ball in it and finally apply it under the armpits or on the hands and feet, just like you would a deodorant.

Treatment #7 for hyperhidrosis

Sweaty Chest

Ingredients
