A recipe for carrot soap

Ingredients

carrot soap
  • Water
  • 60 g carrots
  • 5g salt
  • 112 g caustic soda
  • 400 ml olive oil
  • 100 ml castor oil
  • 300 ml coconut oil
  • 5g ylang ylang essential oil
  • Various silicone or wooden molds

Preparation

Roots

Before you begin, it’s important to make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors. Also wear gloves and glasses. Caustic soda is caustic and can irritate your skin if it comes into contact with it. You should also use plastic or wooden containers.

Instructions

  • Boil the roots in enough water. Make sure you save the water afterwards, because you need it to make the soap.
  • Puree the carrots until you get a spread.
  • Put the carrot puree in a bowl with some salt and 190 ml of the water you used to boil the carrots.
  • Gradually add the caustic soda and mix well with a wooden spoon so that all ingredients are well mixed.
  • When you are done mixing, you will notice that the mixture is hot. This is due to the caustic soda. Let it cool for 1 hour.
  • Once the mixture has cooled, start adding the oils. Mix it well with a wooden spoon. Keep stirring in a circular fashion until you notice a more doughy consistency.
  • Pour the mixture into wooden or silicone molds. If you are using a wooden mold, we recommend that you cover it with baking paper, with the shiny side facing out. This will make it easier to remove the soap from the molds.
  • Let the soap cure for 48 hours. Then remove the soap from the mold and cut it into pieces.
  • Place them on a rack in a ventilated area for 6 weeks. The waiting time is long, but the soap must be cured before you can use it.

Once the soap has hardened, you can start using it. Have fun!
