Habits that are not good for your appearance

We don’t often think about whether our everyday actions are good or bad for us. However, there are some habits that are not good for your appearance or your health.

Unfortunately, the problem is that we often only realize that an action is bad for us when the damage has already (almost) been done. That is why we would like to point out some of these bad habits in this article. You will see that you also have it, without realizing it.

Habits that are not good for your appearance

Sit with your legs crossed

Wrong attitude

Many women regularly sit cross-legged. This is the most common of the everyday habits that are not good for your appearance. This is considered by many to be an elegant pose. However, you should be careful with this attitude, for the following reasons:

  • If you sit with your legs crossed, it reduces the blood supply. This can cause varicose veins, for example.
  • In addition, this position can cause back pain and problems with the genitals. This is due to the pressure exerted on the leg for a longer period of time.

Taking too hot showers

Hot showers are relaxing and are a wonderful ritual for many people. However, we often don’t realize that the high temperature of the water, just like the sun, can affect our skin. It disrupts the natural balance of our skin. So hot water can be the cause of your irritated, itchy or dry skin.

  • Dermatologists recommend lowering the water temperature and taking a shorter shower.
  • In addition, don’t forget to use moisturizing products that are not aggressive to your skin. If you can, avoid creams with strong scents and products that contain hard particles that can damage your skin.

Comb your hair immediately after showering

Comb wet hair

The next on our list of habits that are not good for our appearance is very common. Combing your hair immediately after showering is almost automatic, but it is really bad for your hair. Wet hair is weaker, so combing it while it is still wet is more likely to break or fall out.

If you want to keep your hair healthy, keep the following advice in mind:

  • First, gently towel dry your hair.
  • Then let your hair air dry.
  • Brush or comb your hair. Regardless of the length of your hair, always comb it from the tips upwards.

Exfoliate too often

Sometimes we think that exfoliating is the only way to get blemish-free skin. However, many people exfoliate too often. Sometimes even every day. This ensures that the oil production of your skin is increased, or that your skin becomes drier.

Dermatologists therefore recommend that you do not use exfoliating creams, but instead opt for peels based on milk or glycerol acid.

The mindset

The mindset

We often settle into the thinking pose without thinking, especially when we are concentrated reading something on our computer.

The problem is that in this position you press your hand against your chin. Even if it is only a little bit of pressure, with your hand you still slowly move your hyoid bone without noticing.

Although you probably don’t realize it, you’re still causing an interruption in the blood supply. This can result in a double chin and accelerate the premature aging of your skin.

Constantly touching your face

Normally we touch our face several times a day without realizing it. We often do this automatically, but unfortunately our hands are not always clean.

Touching your face can result in many skin problems. In particular, irritation and acne are common. The dirt and bacteria that build up on your hands end up on your skin as soon as you touch it.

Only rub your face with a sunblock

Sun cream on your face

The damage to the ozone layer is increasing. This allows the sun to penetrate even deeper into our skin, resulting in more and more skin damage. All too often we make the mistake of only applying sunblock to our face, thinking that it is the only part of our body that is exposed to the sun.

When you leave your house, even if it’s just for a short trip, it’s not just your face that needs sunblock. You should also smear the rest:

  • your arms
  • neck
  • the other parts of your body exposed to the sun

This prevents premature aging of the skin and the development of pigmentation spots.

Go to sleep without removing your makeup

It often happens that we come home after a trip and that we no longer feel like taking the make-up off our face. This causes the makeup to accumulate in our pores, causing them to clog. This can lead to infections and later even to acne.

Before going to bed, you should always remove your make-up with a remover. Wash your face and then apply a moisturizer.
