The Seven Skincare Sins

While it may not be a good idea to do this very often (as it weakens the skin), forms of skin care such as exfoliation are fundamental to remove dead skin cells and keep the skin looking beautiful.

The skin is our largest organ. This organ not only plays an important role for our beauty. But it also bears the responsibility of protecting our body from external factors:

  • air pollution
  • Micro organisms
  • Sun rays
  • Much more

Good skin care has been very important for many people for a long time. Because we are constantly exposed to external factors in our living environment, our skin becomes increasingly weak.

The nasty consequences of this

And because of that, we develop all kinds of unattractive skin conditions.

That is why it is important to know exactly what your skin needs. This gives you the knowledge to do what is necessary for healthy skin care.

Are you sure you are taking good care of your skin?

7 skincare sins

1. Hot shower

Hot Shower

You often have to shower with warm water, for example because it is cold outside or because you have just recovered from a cold or flu. However, a daily habit of showering with water that is too hot is quite bad for your skin.

As wonderful as it is to jump into a hot shower,  hot water ensures that:

  • The natural fat layer of your skin decreases.
  • Your skin then becomes dry and tight and can start to itch.

Sometimes this habit is even more harmful, as people also wash themselves with harsh chemical soaps while showering, which can cause the skin to become flaky.

2. Don’t remove your makeup

There is absolutely no reason why you should go to bed at night without removing your makeup. While you sleep, the chemicals in your makeup can seriously damage your skin. They ensure that no oxygen can get into the cells of your skin. However, skin cells need oxygen to regenerate.

It is important to completely clean your face of make-up every night before going to bed. And if possible, it is best to refresh your face with a toner.

3. Too Much Sunbathing

Sunbathe

A nice golden tan on your skin may look spectacular, which is of course great aesthetically, but if you bake too long in the sun or go under the sun too often, it can be a real attack on your skin . These habits will damage your skin and can prevent important skin cells from being able to regenerate.

The consequences of too much sunbathing are visible after a few years in the form of, for example:

  • Skin disorders
  • Premature skin aging
  • In the worst case skin cancer

4. Dry yourself too roughly

Some people have developed a habit of drying themselves very roughly and harshly after taking a shower. However, this is not wise, because it can damage the natural fat layer on your skin. This will make your skin irritated and dry.

The best way to dry yourself is to gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel, without rubbing.

5. Don’t Exfoliate

Mask

Of course, you shouldn’t exfoliate your skin too often, but you shouldn’t skip this important step either.

Many people say they don’t exfoliate their skin because they don’t have enough time or because they are too tired from their work day to do it at night. However, exfoliation provides your skin with the care it needs to regenerate.

This treatment is necessary and it is also the most effective way to remove dead skin cells that build up on the skin from sun exposure or air pollution.

6. Squeezing Pimples

Those pesky pimples are indeed unattractive and often appear on several places on the face and on the rest of your body at the same time.

Many people can’t resist the temptation to pop their pimples. At first glance, this also seems to be the fastest way to get rid of those unsightly pimples. In reality, however, this irritates the skin, which can cause the skin to become inflamed and cause unsightly scars that do not disappear quickly.

7. Touching Your Face Too Much

You may not do this consciously, but it’s important to know that when you touch your facial skin with your hands, you transfer all kinds of bacteria, germs and other kind of dirt that has collected on your hands to your face. These impurities can clog your pores, leading to acne or blackheads.

It is therefore important to keep your hands clean to prevent micro-organisms and dirt from coming into contact with your face.

It is also imperative that you clean your mobile phone regularly. When you’re on the phone, you hold your phone to your cheek and, although you may not be able to see it with your naked eyes, your phone’s display is full of bacteria.
